Adalıköy - Architecture Despite The Stream- An Architectural Design Education Competition Project For Ytong Akademi- December 2019
In the industrial revolution, the aim was not to build machines and to live in them. Turning this tool (technology) into a goal has created many problems today. One of these problems is about the change brought by the "Horizontal Society", compared to the vertical society, which is a fame society, and the fact that the popular culture is a part of our lives. This superficial problem is another consequence of the developments in the technology, communication and transportation. As Einstein said; "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them". In order to produce solutions in the context of the relationship between architecture design disciplines and consumption culture, we must be able to go beyond this culture and carry our world of thought beyond this world of consumption in which we were born and grew up. Today, as solutions to many problems that architecture is dealing with, from "Star Architect" at one end to "setback distance" at the other, none of the recommendations of the "Communication Group of Heads of Departments of Architecture Schools of "MOBBIG" for Architectural Education" differ in this sense that these problems are global problems. A University or A Universal-city, as a high-level education institution, training, scientific research with its publications, as a teaching and research institution consisting of sub-divisions like faculties, institutes, colleges and providing certain specializations to its students should be built on the basis of universal values on the global scale of the world and all humanity, because the science takes care of all the humanity. It should be expected that the university graduates, as world citizens, should produce solutions that can be valid in all over the world to the problems of their own village, city, country and of the region they live in. During this period of their education in architecture and design, it should be given to the students an opportunity to live in an environment independent of the society and the living environment (habitat) in which they grew up. In order to generate ideas on a universal scale, the students must be able to live isolated from the life of the society and the ongoing world of fashionable ideas, so that they must have a chance to grasp the difference between "the one he or she receives from the society and his or her own real needs". The students should be able to realize and experience their basic needs such as shelter, nutrition, clothing and transportation according to their own individual preferences (which are different from the preferences obtained from the society). They should be able to reach every information they need in this education process isolated from the society, and they should be equipped with the basic information they may need. They should be given the opportunity to design and produce their ideas that they have filtred from what they have learned and that they have combined under the title of "the world of their own". This production process is like the steps in the self-made-self-creation process of the individual. The more they will be able to produce, the more they will grow up and maturate. They will be able to live and progress in their own unique and self-appointed world, without the need to stand against any current, but despite any current and therefore will able to be one of the foundations and guides of a solid state of affairs. (self-appointed self-sufficiency) |
For the training process of my proposal I chose a territory that has never been touched and used. There are natural water sources and there is no electricity. Thus, it is possible to use self-appointed, sustainable energy and experience a life without the city electricity. Until today, it is a protected area from its fishes to its birds, since there are no other people than daily visitors who come during the summer months. All of these conditions undoubtedly have a very good effect on the education and training, increase the attractiveness of the educational process, but the main purpose in the selection of the region is that the students has the opportunity to experience a process where they can be productive all the time, thus discovering their own potential, even in their non-educational times. The students can build their own life in line with their own abilities and wishes. In an environment where there will be no opportunities and activities other than what they produce, they can experience a process that is successful to the extent that they are productive and that they can enjoy thanks to their success. The students can cook the fish they catch in the boat they designed and produced with the fishing line they made themselves, eat it in the bread made from the flour of the wheat they have grown, and share it with their friends. The students can enjoy themselves in the song composed and sung by their friends with the instruments they play. They can eat the olives, cheese, honey they produce, and the eggs they collect themselves. They can wear shirts that they designed and sewn from the fabric they have woven with the yarn that they have sheared and spun from the sheep they fed. The most mature point of such a education process; where the students can live by realizing and producing their own ideas for nutrition, clothing, communication, education, transportation, and can organize their own life according to their own real needs, can undoubtedly be the Architecture. Architecture can be the highest maturity they will reach and when they will return to the society, they can have the opportunity to become self-styled individuals who can make real contributions to human life. If such an educational process can be experienced, a person can become aware of the distinction between himself and the society and can develop the ability to move forward in his own way and contribute to the society without the need to stand against the present current in the society. He may be more concerned with what he is doing than with what others are doing. He can produce more than he consumes. Therefore, thanks to these people, a society can find a conscious direction of development and progress. Although it may seem like an isolated process from the society, in order to establish a balanced communication with the society; |

Research - Architecture & Design Despite the Stream; An Education Idea for Our Post-Modern* Era - December 2019 to Present - Download PDF
This study discusses an educational model that overcomes the limitations of modernism and aims for a human-centered and universal understanding of life. In the historical process, the problems that emerged with the alienation of human from the nature, the dominance of technology and globalization have led to changes in current education systems. The study addresses issues such as identity construction, relationship with space and social responsibility by utilizing the disciplines of philosophy, sociology and architecture. In particular, it is aimed to ensure that the individual gains a universal perspective and plays an active role for a better future through the philosophy of cosmopolitanism and the learning by doing approach. | Abstract: : The article proposes an alternative educational model by addressing the effects of modernism that alienates humans from the nature and the human's own natural reality. In this model, a learning process in which the individual constructs his/her own identity, interacts with space and develops a sense of universal responsibility is emphasized. The idea of cosmopolitanism in the history of philosophy and the learning by doing approach in education form the basis of this model. The aim of the study is to ensure that individuals understand the world they live in, contribute to its transformation and strive for a better future.

Sundurma - An art, culture and sports education project where the local and the global meet in our post-modern world - A New Approach, Proposal on Bussiness Life Where The Global City Life meets The Rural, The Traditional Country Side - July 2021 (Download PDF file in English)
As an Independent Student of Architecture and as an Independent Researcher I would like to humbly contribute to Lifelong Learning and Adult Learning Education researches with an idea. In this project, I am focused on the Education of our working people around the world while concerning about the paradox between the global and the local, the rural and the city cultures. Could it be possible for the Reinforcement of the Indigenous Cultures, creating Awareness about the environmental problems, Global Economic advancement, Adult Learning, Lifelong Learning and Healthier societies can coexist and continue to endure while reinforcing each other ? While our cities are expanding, in some meeting points where the city meets the rural life, in the mean time, another meeting of the global with the regional/local occurs. Both culturally and economically. Eg: Supermarket retail chains shops etc. If we can turn these meeting points in centers of education and sharing in sport, culture and art as exchange points in labour, craftsmanships, arts and culture, would it be possible to create both the reinforcement of the indigenous rural life with the indigenous culture and economic continuity. I am talking about adding some facilities in these meeting points for the possibility to use them as opening windows to the world for the local cultures as we are using them as windows of the global to the locals. And also education facilities for the working people to be able to continue their lifelong learning even for their own physical and mental health and individual progress. Also wouldn’t be possible to create the environmental and health awareness we need for the uneducated people meeting on these exchange corners possible ? Since the paradox of our times is between the global and the local, is it possible for both to reinforce and enrich each other ? Could it be possible for both the indigenous cultures and globally thinking minds to be aware that both their knowledge could help each other to create a better life on earth ? Today we have decided to settle on the planet Mars and we will establish a new world there. Does it make sense to take all the books that have been written throughout the ages, or all the money in the world? In this sense, how should we organize our minds and works? What is civilization? What does it do? Where does it come from? Where does it go? Today, it may be possible for everyone to work not only to earn money, but also to improve themselves. Work can be seen as an opportunity in the way of self-development; Lifelong learning. A workplace can be like a school. The goal must be the humanity. Then the money can be a medium of exchange again and the work can be a process where people try to make the most of every moment. It is possible to be the people who do not work to live one day, but who do live even when they work. In this context, the working environment and conditions can be improved and changed by making more humanist arrangements. As stated by the scientists and phylosophers who transcended their time and space, Hegel and Einstein, business life can be transformed into a process that allows the individual to mature, to realize themselves, and to close the gap between the nature and their consciousness, beyond any financial gain. In this context, the connection point where the global city life and the traditional, local rural life, where the 'global' and the 'national' meet, can be transformed |
in such a way that the local can find its own universal humanely elements in its own culture, and that the possibility of strengthening the rural and sustaining the traditional for any opportunities of making contributions to the global. At this point, the prominent differences emerges such as the way of using the space, the production and living habits; In the urban life, the place is born from a work-oriented lifestyle, mechanized, closed to the outdoor and in a search for an indoor comfort. But in the countryside, the space is open to the outdoor or half closed. In the countryside, it is not preferred to use indoor spaces during the day or it is preferred to use them at a minimum level. The concept of vacation can be ignored since working is also living unlike the city life. Even the individuals and the families who are not engaged in agricultural production prefer to grow their own foods such as fruits and vegetables, within their own means, and turn them into goods such as pickles and tomato paste that they can consume throughout the winter. Socialization, which is experienced in the urban culture as making the use of the spaces and services provided by the shopkeepers at the weekend and out of work time, is also carried outdoor in the countryside on the special days and occasions like the individual sharing, hospitality, wedding gatherings and seasonal celebrations. Bringing together these life differences which we will define as cultures, at this kind of a meeting point, in such an empowering way for each other; beside strengthening the traditional, also may gain an importance in terms of the rise of human values in the global, an orientation towards a better world, and the raising of awareness and finding solutions to our universal problems in the traditional rural, countryside as a need. There are many life styles and habits that have become social realities in the traditional countryside, as solution possibilities to the problem of 'moving away from human values' created by technology today, all over the world; The solidarity culture. In addition, for our world that we owe to the future generations, we need to raise awareness about the environmental problems such as energy consumption, carbon footprint, water consumption, protection of the nature and of our forests and trees, environmental cleaning and recycling of our garbage. And education about making changes in our living habits in the countryside becomes more and more evident. Although our people in the countryside are aware of the value of nature and benefit from all its opportunities, they are far away from the necessary awareness and protectionist approach due to the increase in the world population. At the same time, although the country people are in a healthier environment compared to urban life, they are also been deprived of the rising awareness of the developments and advances in health. After all, it is our humanitarian duty to raise awareness on all these issues and to produce solutions that allow us to take steps for a better future. Emergency - A Proposal For The Hospitals' Emergency Services - Januray 2022
Today, the medicine, especially in the University Hospitals, seems to be an ideal business life and working environment for the continuous self-development of the individual. As it is not possible for the doctors and the health workers to continue their work unaware of the progress and developments in the medicine around the world, it also is not possible for the hospitals and especially for the university hospitals to stay far away from these developments. In this context; is it possible to suggest new solutions for the Hospitals' Emergency Departments, which have gradually reached today's generally accepted design in the historical process. In addition to the patients who apply to the emergency services for treatment, can the working conditions of our doctors and health workers, who keep all these services running twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week providing health services be more humane and livable ? An alternative solution proposal was prepared by taking The generally accepted Hospitals' Emergency Services design as an example. |
It was observed that there were significant problems in almost all emergency services of the hospitals, especially in the traffic of attendants, patients, doctors and health workers. It was observed that the traffic betweeen the companions who does not want to be separated from the patients and the doctors and the staff of the department creates difficulties in the work. But it was not possible to keep them apart from their patients. In addition, a new Emergency Service Design was made based on the fact that the companions and patient relatives could not be accommodated in suitable environments during the treatment and their needs could not be met properly. In this design; The patients' relatives and companions are hosted in a healthy and comfortable environment, separate from the area where doctors, nurses and all staff work, but without being apart from their patients. In addition, It was considered an opportunity for all those who is in this service to benefit from the healing and relaxing effect of the nature.
